Ben Millar Cole is a photographer and AI collaborative artist working at the intersection of visual arts and technology. His work reimagines photographic traditions through the lens of artificial intelligence, blending sculptural composition, digital image-making, and traditional printing techniques to explore the evolving relationship between human and machine creativity.
His latest project After Wall reimagines the work of Jeff Wall through the lens of AI, transforming meticulously constructed photographic scenes into organic, fungal landscapes. Blurring the lines between homage and innovation, Cole’s work replaces Wall’s human-centered narratives with vibrant networks of natural forms, evoking cycles of decay, regeneration, and transformation. By combining AI’s generative potential with Wall’s compositional rigour, 'After Wall' invites viewers to reflect on the evolving dynamics of creativity, authorship and collaboration in the current age of AI.
Cole’s experimental approach extends beyond the screen, integrating lenticular prints as a way to materialise the iterative nature of AI-generated imagery. His work has been recognised with the Wallpaper* AI-Generated Design Award (2023) and featured in exhibitions at the California Museum of Photography and Palmer Gallery. He has also presented his work through artist talks at events including Paris Photo.
Photomonitor and Altered States magazine recently featured Millar Cole's Rip-Off - a psychosocial performance exploring identity, featuring a singular character - a puritanical, prize-fighting, gold-toothed employee gone gonzo.
